Celebrating its 30th anniversary, An Affair of the Heart, an artistry event native to Oklahoma was held Feb. 6-8 at the Oklahoma City State Fair Park.

An Affair of the Heart is a family event that has lots of things for everyone to enjoy, said Steve Harris, director of sales and marketing and son of co-founder, Connie Harris.

“An Affair of the Heart was Pinterest before Pinterest was around. … Now we kind of joke about it; we are like Pinterest live,” Harris Said.

The thought is that people can make a lot of these things themselves but then they come back the next year and still have not made it, so they buy it, Harris said. “That is sort of a novelty of the show.”

According to aaoth.com, the event was started in February of 1985, and has now expanded to Tulsa, Oklahoma; San Antonio, Texas; and will extend to Conway, Arkansas.

“There are some very serious people that do this for a business and they come from a long way,” he said.

Six employees work full-time to prep for different shows throughout the year.

“We are always working on multiple shows at a time,” Harris said. “It is an all-year plan.”

“We are expanding some,” Harris said. “After (the Conway and San Antonio shows) get going I would guess it will probably be another three years before we start another show,” he said.
