RSC hosted a Halloween party for students, staff and faculty in the Student Center on Oct. 30.
The party included refreshments, games, a haunted house hosted by Student Senate, a costume contest and the announcement of the winner of the Penny Wars.
Costume contest
The costume contest had more than 80 entries, Deb O’Donnell, administrative assistant to the president, said.
Voting for best costume is in two categories: students, and faculty and staff. To vote, visit rose.edu/faculty-staff-costumes and rose.edu/studentcostume. Winners will be notified on Nov. 12.
Penny Wars
Penny Wars was a contest between the Classified Staff Association, Faculty, Professional and Administrative Staff Associaton and students to see who could raise the most money for the Adopted School Christmas Program. Donated pennies were worth positive points; any other coins or bills were worth negative points. All teams raised a total of $514.63.
Faculty placed first with CSA in second, PASA in third and students in fourth.
Faculty representatives accepted a trophy and got to smash pies in the faces of Austin Carroll, student senate president, and Trey VanCuren, student senate vice-president.
CSA, as the second place winner, mixed a “ghoulish drink” for PASA representatives.
Creative writing
Humanities professor Trixie Walther took her Creative Writing class to the party as a prompt for them to write a short story about someone in costume.
Ashley Peek, English major and Creative Writing student, chose to write about the Queen of Hearts costume she saw at the party. Peek said she is using the prompt to write about a character whose costume takes over her body.
Peek said having class at the party was “different” because there were more people present than in their regular classroom.
