The Wellness Center Cycle-a-thon closed Sept. 30 with roughly 6,875 miles from 136 participants, said Chris Leland director of health and wellness activities.

October promises to be a big month too. On Oct. 8, the center will host Wellness Day from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on the gym floor which will include flu shots, and American Red Cross blood donations. Free chair massages will be offered 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

“It’s a great way to open up the Wellness Center,” said head softball coach Nickie Williams. “It brings a lot of students in and awareness to health and wellness, and who doesn’t love a chair massage?”

Flu shots are free to full-time faculty, staff and retired faculty. Students and community members can get flu shots for $25.

Students can sign up to donate blood at the Wellness Center front desk; those who register will be entered into a drawing for a Samsung Galaxy tablet, Williams said.

The center will also host Mobile Mammography on Oct. 29. Appointments can be made by calling at 405-755-2273, ext. 1406. Mammograms are recommended for women over 35 years of age.

Treadmill-a-thon runs Oct. 1-31, and anyone can participate by running, jogging or walking on treadmills in the center to reach a goal of 26.2 miles, which is the length of a marathon, throughout the course of the month as many times a day or week as they want to meet their goal.

“The majority of people can do it if you give them the time.” Leland said.

Participants who meet the goal will receive a Treadmill-a-thon T-shirt, and students who meet the goal will be entered for prize drawings.
