The Midwest City Chamber of Commerce hosted an AfterCareers career fair from 10 a.m.- 2p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in the RSC Student Center.

AfterCareers connects job seekers with employers after graduation, military service or corporate downsizing.

At the fair, many companies were seeking employees as well as services and resources for students and community members to utilize, such as the state of Oklahoma’s, Tinker Air Force Base Civilian Employment, and the OSU Office of Equal Opportunity, as well as several other businesses in the field of finance, construction, college-based jobs, and more

Bonnie Cheatwood, Executive Director of the Midwest City Chamber of Commerce, hosted the fair for the second time this year.

“We’ve had a great turnout,” Cheatwood said. “We got over 75 to 100 people around 10 a.m.”

Tinker AFB Civilian Employment also had an information booth. Despite the fact although Tinker AFB is a hub for aircraft maintenance, there are several jobs for civilians such as logistics, engineering, contracting, finance, administrative and clerical positions.

“Tinker is not just a military base, it has over 14,000 civilian jobs.” Said Melody Cardome, Human Resources specialist for Tinker AFB Civilian Employment.

Midwest Regional Medical Center also had a booth. It has a contract with RSC to provide residencies for nursing students after graduation. The new graduate residency program comes with a two-year contract and pays up to $2,000 college tuition reimbursement, said Carol Donnelly, a recruiter with MRMC.
