Applications for the Frances White Hughes Scholarship, a leadership scholarship for fine arts students, are being accepted until 5 p.m. Monday, March 3.

The Hughes Scholarship is awarded to up to 10 students each fall who are majoring in one of the fine arts: theater, photography, art, music, music engineering or library technical assistant, with an emphasis in fine arts. Recipients are awarded $2,000 per semester for tuition and books.

“Students should apply for this program because there is nothing else like this offered anywhere else,” said Micayla Eddy, art major and second-year Hughes Scholar.

Hughes Scholars are required to earn a minimum of 90 internship hours, complete an approved business class and maintain a 2.5 GPA every semester while on scholarship.

Internship hours are earned by volunteering at the Civic Center Music Hall, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, RSC leadership events and other approved internships.

There are “so many opportunities to network,” Eddy said, “I wouldn’t have the job I have now if it weren’t for this program.”

Hughes Scholars are part of the college’s leadership program. First-year scholars are required to take the Lessons in Leadership class. All will participate in planning a conceptual event during the fall and spring semesters.
