Most modern-day American schools have a student-run government to help aid students by giving them a voice in the goings-on at their institution. At RSC, the Student Senate is that elected body.

Voting for Student Senate representatives was open on D2L from 12:00 a.m. on Sept. 4 through 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 5. Candidates were allowed to begin campaigning once they received application approval.

“Thirty-one total applications were received and were 26 approved,” Kirby Harzman, coordinator of student activities, said.

Newly Elected Senators:

Executive Officers

Candidates had to meet two requirements in order to run: they had to have at least a 2.5 grade point average and be enrolled in at least six credit hours.

“The Senate is made up of 25 total members: 16 Senators, five Division Merit Appointees and four Executive Officers,” Harzman said. Executive officers are elected during the spring semester.

“The student senate is responsible for making recommendations to the administration on behalf of the student-body. In the form of legislation, they speak on behalf of the students. They meet every Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Student Senate Conference Room, and the meetings are open to the public. The Student Senate is also responsible for allocating money to our active student organizations upon request.  They also plan events, programming and volunteer opportunities for Rose State students,” Harzman said.

The Student Senate also provides pupils with an opportunity to get involved in all aspects of college life, learn valuable life skills and make a difference on their campus.
